CURRENT AND RECENT PROJECTS
Community College Leadership and Curriculum Development
Community College Leadership Certificate Program
We helped develop a community college leadership certificate program that can be taken for up to 9 units of credit, offered by Sacramento State's College of Continuing Education. We produced a background paper that helped document the community college leadership needs and served as a basis for the curriculum of the new program (see California's Community Colleges' Leadership Challenge: A View From the Field).
Community College Leadership Development Initiatives (CCLDI)
We served during 2002-03 as the northern regional host for participants in the Leadership Fellows program sponsored by the Community College Leadership Development Initiatives (CCLDI) at the Claremont Graduate University by offering a series of policy workshops covering topics such as teaching and learning in the community colleges, assessment and accountability, finance, human relations, external and internal community building, and diversity. We are continuing to collaborate, as funding permits, with the CCLDI.
Higher Education Graduate Curriculum
We have developed new graduate coursework in higher education leadership and policy within the Masters program of the Department of Public Policy and Administration at California State University, Sacramento. New courses are offered in higher education policy and higher education leadership.
Doctorate in Educational Leadership for Community Colleges
We participated in the planning for a joint Ed.D. in educational leadership in cooperation with the University of California, Davis and Sonoma State University. The program, which began in Fall 2005, includes a common core, a K-12 track, and a community college track. The degree is specifically aimed at working professionals. It is organized around four curricular themes: leading and managing complex organizations, understanding and influencing public policy, using data in decision making, and community building in a diverse society.
