1. List one advantage of using a non-aqueous buffer in capillary electrophoresis.
Using a non-aqueous buffer allows a wider range of solutes amenable to capillary electrophoresis. The solvent versatility also allows other detectors. Also NACE can increase separation, decrease cost and lower the LOD.
2. Why can wide bore capillaries be used in NACE as opposed to very small internal diameter capillaries with aqueous solutions?
With aqueous electrolyte solutions, small internal diameter capillaries have to be used to minimize Joule heating. However, wide bore capillaries can be used in NACE because less heat is produced in NACE because of the low electrical conductivities on non-aqueous solvents.
