Team Readiness Assessments

Team readiness assessments (TRAs) are given every two weeks to assess your readiness for the more complex thinking required during application exercise. These assessments measure recognition & basic comprehension of (1) essential terms, (2) primary sources, and (3) key images. A number of these same questions then reappear on the final exam.

NOTE: each TRA takes place after a two-period guided reading session introducing the readings, but before the in-depth processing of readings done during application exercise. Most students thus need to allow more time than they are used to for reading and studying assigned materials on their own.

Format --> number and types of questions:

  1. Each TRA will begin with five or five (5) multiple choice questions asking you to define, recognize examples of, and/or identify the significance of one or more of the terms & names identified in the reading guide for each two-week unit of the course. These terms appear mostly in the primary source readings listed in the schedule for each unit and highlighted in the reading guide, but at least one question will address additional information about terms found in in "Essential Elements of Religious Life" or the on-line Encyclopedia Britannica; such terms are marked with an asterisk ("*") in the reading guide.

  2. Each TRA will also contain three (3) multiple choice questions asking you to (a) identify the title, composer, and historical period of the source for TWO unidentified passages drawn from the required primary sources assigned for each two-week unit; as well as (b) what precedes and follows the passages. These passages will be chosen from a set of FOUR unidentified passages provided at the end of the reading guide for each two-week unit. As noted above, required primary sources are listed in the schedule for each unit.

  3. Finally, the last two (2) multiple choice questions on each TRA will ask you for contextual information about an object, individual or event depicted in a slide from the on-line Power Point presentation (PPT), and sometimes other on-line images, assigned for each two-week unit. Each PPT and image may be accessed by clicking on its title listed in the schedule for each unit.
