Kevin Elstob teaches French. He is an avid traveler who puts biking and hiking in California and Provence at the top of his activities list. His most recent journey was to Los Angeles and San Francisco with the Madrigal choir, in which his son used to sing. Elstob has also spent a lot of time in Canada (from coast to coast).
Since working on the theatre of French playwright Michel Vinaver for his PhD, Elstob has continued to examine ways in which the visual arts, particularly theatre and film, represent French and Francophone culture. He has led a number of post-film discussions and question and answers sessions at the Crest and Tower movie theatres.
He has a profound interest in multilingualism and how it changes one's appreciation of life. One of the projects he is working on presently is an approach to writing and grading for cultural competence.
Elstob has also collaborated on some fascinating translations for organizations in Northern California. Recently he translated an Avian Flu workshop for UC Davis Wildlife Center's programs in Djibouti and West Africa.
Elstob is former president and founding member of the Alliance Française de Sacramento. He is a member of the Sacramento French Club where he plays Pétanque. He is also a qualified Pétanque umpire. He likes to write fiction and poetry when he has time, but he mostly is successful with film and theater criticism. Elstob loves to laugh; he adores palindromes, word plays and a good joke.
