Use of eInstruction CPS RF clickers

This semester we will be using student response pads or ‘clickers’ to take quizzes and to deliver immediate feedback during lecture.  The response pad that you purchase should look like the one pictured to the right (eInstruction CPS RF).

Purchased through the Hornet Bookstore, the current price is approximately $21.00 plus tax. In addition to purchasing the clicker (which you own outright and can sell back to the Bookstore as a used “book”), you must also pay a per semester (not per course) registration fee of $13 per semester. This is done via an online registration website, www.einstruction.com. eInstruction has established a program that for the lifetime of ownership (even in incremental semesters), the student will never pay more than $35 in licensing registration. Thus the total cost of lifetime ownership and registration of the eInstruction CPS clicker is approximately $58/student. CPS clickers are also available at highly discounted prices ($15-20) at Amazon.com and elsewhere on the web. (Click here for the Amazon page.)

Once you have obtained the response pad it must be enrolled through the company’s website so that the instructor can match the pad’s signal to an individual student.  If you have already purchased the appropriate response pad for another class and have set up an account, then you can skip Step 1 and proceed directly to Step 2, 'Enroll in a Class.'

When you enroll through CPSOnline, you will first need to setup a CPSOnline account.

CLASS KEY: N55413E518

STEP 1: Create an Account

  1. Go to www.einstruction.com.

  3. Select your school or university from the drop-down menu (California State University Sacramento).
  4. Click Choose Site.
  5. Enter your serial number in the space provided. You can find your serial number on your LCD screen when you turn on your pad.
  6. Click Create Your Account.
  7. Create a CPSOnline Username and Password and fill in your contact information. Click Submit to create your account.

STEP 2: Enroll in a Class

  1. Click Yes to enroll immediately in your class (or log into your account and choose to enroll in a class).
  2. Enter your Class Key (SEE ABOVE) in the space provided. If you have a Code, enter it in the Code box. Note that a Code is not required. (Class Key = TBA)
  3. Click Submit and choose your payment options. Click Continue.
  4. Fill in your billing information and click Continue.
  5. To join an additional CPSOnline class, click the Enroll in a class button from the main menu.
  6. Once you have finished enrolling in all of your classes, click Log Out. So that CPSOnline properly records your information, log out of CPSOnline.

NOTE: If you enroll in more than one class using CPS, your response pad may have a different assigned number for each class. Note your assigned response pad number after you enroll for each class.

We will begin using these devices in class after the 2nd week.  Not having the registered device by then will result in a loss of quiz points.
