These electronic pages provide information for the course Essentials of Government taught over television by Professor Robert Friedman at California State University, Sacramento. This course introduces the basics of national, state, and local governments. It is open to all students. Your Gradebook ID can be accessed via SacCT "My grades." Missed quizzes, tests, and Insights will be assigned a grade of 0 unless the absence was excused in which case it will be assigned a grade of "a." |

Studio and classroom students are to hand in their essays to the instructor or student assistant at the beginning of the class. Web students are to submit their essays by 6PM the night before their scheduled date. Web students must email the Professor their date selection for their Insight. I will confirm your selection. As dates fill up, it might be a good idea to give me a second choice. |

Textbook information: Three of the textbooks (Lowi & Ginsberg's We The People, Shorter 8th edition (ISBN 978-0-393-93524-0), The Enduring Debate,6th edition(ISBN 978-0-393-91205-0), by Canon et al and Anagnoson's Governing California 3rd edition (ISBN 978-0-393-91202-9) are available as a discounted package (ISBN 978039313262-5). This package can be purchased at the Hornet bookstore or directly from the publisher for a discounted price which includes shipping. If you wish to purchase the package directly from the publisher, you can do so at the Norton Student Store. (Note: please disregard message at the publisher's site that the discounted package is out of stock.) The final required text is Annual Editions: State and Local Government 15th Edition ISBN 978-0-07-805121-0 You can purchase the e-book version of the main Lowi & Ginsberg text for half the price of the paper version at: www.nortonebooks.com. Note that, if you do this, you will not receive the benefit of the discounts on the other two textbooks.
All textbooks are on reserve at the Library Reserve Book Room. The text reading (except those in Annual Editions) for the first two weeks is available on online reserve. |
