The Chalupas Caldera, Ecuador

We conducted field work in Ecuador over two field seasons. The first in January of 1999 and the second in December of 2000. Below are a series of pictures taken during these field seasons to show some of the geology that we saw, the beauty of the Ecuadorian Andes and some aspects of the culture.

Quarry exposure of Chalupas Ashflow Tuff. Approximately 50 meters exposed with top and bottom of deposit absent. Average thickness of the Chalupas Ashflow deposit is ~30 meters. Maximum thickness is ~100 meters.
