California Family Leave

California Family Rights Act - CFRA
Enacted in 1995
Similar to FMLA, except that CFRA:
allows State employees up to 12 months off for birth, adoption and newborn care.
allows intermittent leave for newborn care, adoption and foster care placement.
does not require spouses who work for the same employer to share leave.
Also mandates that female employees who are pregnant, giving birth, or experiencing a related health condition receive the same benefits as an employee on temporary disability, that is for a period of six weeks or less.

Paid Family Leave

Family Temporary Disability Insurance allows up to 6 weeks.
Pays 55% of wages up to a $728 weekly max beginning July 1, 2004
Cost .08 percent added to SDI withholding January 1, 2004
