1/5/14 (grade summaries)
  • Happy New Year. Hope you are enjoying the break.
  • You can use the PIN you gave me the last week of class to check your final grades, posted on January 2nd. Sorry for the delay. I had meant to post interim grades before the break, but had technical difficulties. The files below list the grade summary for each student by PIN, with points listed for each assignment, the total points and the final letter grade.  Points for re-writes for the first paper were are added to the paper grade. If you do not know, or did not give me a PIN, please email me.  If there is an error in the grade, please let me know. If the error changes your letter grade, then I can submit a grade change form at the beginning of the semester.

9/26/13
  • Here are some practice variance problems:

1) A scientist obtains the following weight gain data from 7 study participants: 4, 5, 5, 6, 6, 7, 9. What is the variance (s2)  and standard deviation (s) for these data?

2) A researcher assesses the amount of time it takes for seven students to take an exam, and obtains the following data:

20

30

10

40

40

40

20

Compute the variance (s2) and standard deviation (s) for these data. What does the standard deviation tell you about the variability in these data?

Answers:

1) s2 = 3.17  s= 1.78

2) s2 = 233.33  s = 15.28

On average the numbers differ about 15 from the mean.

  • For class on Wednesday, 10/2, we will meet in the computer lab:

9am section: MND 2007

3pm section: MND 2003
