11/14/13
  • 290 students are meeting with me individually over the next two weeks to discuss methodology and petitions. There is no class scheduled until December 10 - last day of class. For that class, I would like to accomplish two things as we nosh on some treats:
  • Students will provide a BRIEF 5-minute presentation of their project or thesis idea, the progress that they have made so far, and their plans for next semester.
  • I am in the process of recruiting an informal panel of CHDV MA students who have completed the thesis/project. You will have an opportunity to ask questions of folks who have recently seen the other side of the project or thesis.

10/9/13
  • Note: We will split the group up a bit in the next few weeks. Next week (10/15) 290 THESIS students only, then 292 students, then 290 PROJECT students only on 10/29. No class on 11/5.
  • All 290 students should continue to read articles, make journal entries, and work on the annotated bibliography due via email on 10/22.

  • Next week (9/17): both courses will meet together and discuss academic writing. Be sure to read supplementary Reading 2a and Reading 2b, as well as chapter 2 of the APA manual before class. Begin reading some of the references you found on your topic and choose one for your article review paper. Continue writing in your journals, especially as you read on your topic.
  • Your article review paper is due 9/17 in class. Please attach a copy of the article you are reviewing to your paper.

9/3/13

Hello and welcome! Here are a few things to keep in mind as we begin the course.

  • Be sure to peruse the course web page, especially the schedule and assignments pages. You will want to check this announcements page and the course schedule each week for updates. You needn't print everything out, just those things (e.g., handouts) that will be useful to have as hard copies.
  • Both CHDV 292 (exam) and CHDV 290 (thesis/project) students will be taught together  this semester. Sometimes both classes will meet together (at the beginning and end of the semester); most of the time the classes will alternate. Be sure to check the combined schedule for your particular course.
  • Supplementary readings for the course will be posted as pdf files on the web site and are linked to the schedule. They are password protected. Please see me for a password. Reading assignments should be completed before the class meetings.

Looking forward to a successful semester!

Sheri
