Geology 500- M.S. thesis project

Week 6:  Time and Distance drawdown tests- fully confined aquifer

Objectives:

We will use pumping tests from the deeper (semi-confined) aquifer to estimate T, K and S.  We will assume that all conditions for the Theis solution are met (fully confined aquifer).

Reading:

Cooper-Jacob time drawdown solution:

Fetter, Applied Hydrogeology, 4th ed., pp. 173-175

Cooper-Jacob distance drawdown solution:

Fetter, Applied Hydrogeology, 4th ed., pp. 175-177

Data sets:

MW1A

MW1A 24 hour test

MW2A

MW2A 24 hour test

MW3A

MW-3A 24 hour test

Manual measurements

Distances:

Distances between wells were measured with a steel tape:

Extraction well to MW1A = 133.0 ft

Extraction well to MW2A = 138.9 ft

Extraction well to MW3A = 30.05 ft

Assignment

Estimate the transmissivity (T), hydraulic conductivity (K), and storativity (S) in the deeper water bearing interval.  Assume that the interval is fully confined.  Include a methods section with appropriate references, results and discussion.  Use thesis format.
