Week 9: Deltaic systems

Objectives:

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • Discuss the economic importance of deltas.

  • Identify major deltaic facies, and describe sedimentary structures and water depths in each facies.

  • Be familiar with fluvial, wave and tide-dominated deltas and their features.

  • List and discuss features, sedimentary structures, fossils or relationships that are common in a deltaic sequence.
