Week 12:

Deltaic and eolian systems

Objectives:

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • Discuss the economic importance of deltas

  • Identify major deltaic facies, and describe sedimentary structures and water depths in each facies

  • Be familiar with fluvial, wave and tide-dominated deltas and their features

  • List and discuss features, sedimentary structures, fossils or relationships that are common in a deltaic sequence

  • Identify eolian dune forms based on the number of slip faces

  • Distinguish between barchan and parabolic dunes

  • Discuss common interdune features

  • Talk about where wadi deposits form
