Week 11: Theis solution using drawdown data, Jacob time and distance straight-line solutions for transmissivity

Objectives:

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • Hand-plot field drawdown data and overlay the Theis type curve to estimate aquifer transmissivity, storativity and hydraulic conductivity.

  • Hand-plot field drawdown data and overlay the appropriate type curve to estimate aquifer transmissivity or hydraulic conductivity.

  • Use the Cooper-Jacob distance drawdown method to estimate aquifer parameters.

  • Use the Cooper-Jacob time drawdown solution to estimate aquifer parameters.

  • Prepare for the next midterm!

Examples of old tests are given below.  Use these to study for the second exam and test your comprehension of the material.  You will not be responsible for material on the old tests that we did not cover this semester.  You should also study your notes, read the book, and prepare a note card.  You will be allowed to bring two 8 1/2" x 5 1/2" note cards to the test, or fill both sides of a 8 1/2" x 11" page with any printed material.  You may use your book to look up conversion factors during the test, but not to look up equations or examples.
