Week 10: Flooding in Sacramento, Groundwater

Objectives

Upon completion of this unit students should be able to:

  • Discuss the reasons that Sacramento has a high risk of flooding

  • Give examples of areas in Sacramento that lie within the 100 year floodplain

  • Summarize what would happen with a levee failure in the Pocket area.

  • Discuss where groundwater occurs in the subsurface.

  • Use and define terms common groundwater terms:  vadose, phreatic, groundwater table, saturated, unsaturated
