Project Description

A Javits Gifted and Talented Students Education Program ( Grant: 84.206A) to identify and serve underrepresented students of above average A bility , C reativity , and T ask Commitment

The Javits Project was conducted from 2005 to 2009 to: (1)  improve GATE identification processes; (2) provide a professional development series for classroom differentiated instruction strategies; and (3) offer additional educational opportunities for underrepresented or underserved students.

Dr. Jelinek and Dr. Sun, co-PIs, designed the program to evaluate existing practices in gifted and talented education in several districts in an effort to widen and make more accurate the identification processes of GATE students.

The program generated a solid, research-based methodology for establishing a process by which to improve GATE identification and classroom teaching for all students through differentiated instructional strategies.
