Employment
Job growth in Butte County continued positive in 2007 with an 2.4% (1,900 job) increase. The forecast for 2008, based on actual data through December, 2007, is for a slower 0.4% increase.

Unemployment
The annual average Unemployment Rate for 2007 was 6.6%, up from the 2006 rate of 6.2%. The forecast for 2008, based on actual data through December, 2007, is for another slight increase to 6.7%.

Taxable Sales
Taxable Sales for all Outlets, grew at a solid 5.5% rate in 2006, slightly better than the 5.0% increase in 2005. The forecast, based on actual results through the 4th quarter, 2006, for 2007 is for a slightly slower 4.9% increase, followed by a similar 4.9% increase in 2008, putting the County/MSA over the $3. billion mark in 2008.

Building Permits
Residential Building Permits activity in 2007 declined by another 25.4%, or 296 fewer permits issued than in 2006. There were 868 residential building permits issued in 2007, so the building activity does continue. The forecast for 2008, based on actual data through December of 2007, is for another decline of 7.4% reducing the number of residential permits issued by 65, for a total of 803 permits for the year.
