Employment
2/27/2008:  Employment growth has increased each year since the turn of the century, so the 11 county Sacramento Economic Area did not experience an employment decline in 2007, but the growth slowed. The increase in the annual average number of wage and salary jobs in 2007 was 1.54% (16,770 jobs), slower than the 2.23% (23,760 jobs) increase in 2006. The forecast for 2008, based on data through December, is an even slower growth of 0.18% (1,995 job) increase.

Unemployment
8/13/2007:  The annual average Unemployment Rate for the Economic Area in 2007 was 5.7%, up from the 5.1% in 2006. The Sacramento Economic Area's annual Unemployment Rate for 2008, based on actual data through December, is forecast to be up again, to 6.0%.

Taxable Sales
8/13/2007:  The growth in Taxable Sales from all Outlets in the eleven county Sacramento Economic Area continued in 2006 with a 1.5% ($600 million) increase, down from the 7.1% increase in 2005. The forecast for 2007, based on actual sales data through the 4th quarter of 2006, is for an even slower 0.7% ($280 million) increase. The forecast for 2008 calls for a 3.4% increase.
