ENGL 1A College Composition

In this course, we will focus on the processes of critical thinking, reading, and writing through an examination of U.S. multi-ethnic cultures. The main goal of the course is to introduce the basics of written argumentation.  Rather than use a simple, debate style “pro and con” approach, we will dig beneath the surface of complex arguments to analyze implicit as well as explicit claims and explore the various rhetorical strategies authors use to construct their arguments.  Our goal in this endeavor will be to reach an understanding of the values and assumptions that underlie complex arguments and to produce lucid, logical papers based on solid rhetorical analysis.
