EARNING ACADEMIC CREDIT,
GAINING WORK EXPERIENCE

The Department of English offers a number of Internships every semester. Interns receive careful supervision by an Internship Mentor in the job setting. My role, as the Faculty Internship Coordinator in the English Department, is to ensure that you acquire valuable work experience and to act as an intermediary when necessary. Students earn 3 units of upper-division or graduate credit, depending upon class standing.

Internships provide opportunities to explore your chosen professional field. By learning and experiencing the day-to-day responsibilities and demands of the job, an internship will help you determine if the profession is indeed a good fit for you.

Read what some of our past Interns have reported about their experience:

Ian reported:
"...at CalPERS I have been able to do work that I feel proud of doing."

Danielle reported:
"...this internship has been an incredibly valuable experience… researching and writing about terrorism in my internship work was an extension of coursework in Humanities 110, but on a more profound level."

Luci reported:
"my internship has really broadened by idea of what it means to be an educator."

It is imperative that students contact me immediately after signing up for 195C or 410C in order to earn credit for the internship. For more information, your first step is to consult the Internships page of the English Department website.

Please contact me if you have further questions or need to set up an appointment.
