Writing Assignment 2

This is a practice in using the catalog, which has a wealth of information for you to explore.  You can use either a hard copy or go to the CSUS website to access an on-line copy of the 2008-2010 catalog.

·         Read the section on Financial Aid.  In complete sentences explain the 3 requirements for satisfactory progress for a student receiving financial aid.  Also identify where you would go to find information on (a) institutional scholarships and

 (b) scholarships for specific majors.

·         Read the section on  Degree Requirements-Baccalaureate:  General Education.  Find a course in Area C, which you think might be interesting.  Record its department, course number, and title.  Then go to the department section of the catalog to read the course description.  Record the course description and tell me if you are still interested in taking that course.

·         Go to either the Biological Sciences Program or Chemistry Program.  For the department you have selected find the Requirements for the Bachelor's Degree (BA or BS) and Requirements for a Minor in that department.  What is the main difference between the major and the minor, in terms of their purposes?

·         Read the section on Academic Policies and summarize

                (a) under what conditions you can get an incomplete (I) grade for a course and later convert it to a grade, and

                (b) what grade point averages are required to graduate with honors, high honors, and highest honors.
