My new play opens tonight
My last play had a long run
audiences loved it
critics too
Local color . . . red splashes
sun off the asphalt
off strings of old buildings
splintering life in the street
Summer sun
Kids enchanted
entering secret gardens
Drama . . . gripping, compelling
Opening night was the best night of my life
Letting go was hard
Writing the new play was harder
Elephants and monkeys
palm trees and
old sea captains
Summer brown dreams
reclaiming secret lagoons
Horizons . . . stretching
as far as the eyes can see.
- Charles Martell
