Presented "Developing an innovative Japanese language course using
WebCT" presented with Andrea Shea at !MPACT
2003, WebCT's 5th Annual Users Conference in San Diego,
CA, July 16, 2003. This presentation showcased my technology-enhanced
first-year Japanese language class. The course made innovative
use of WebCT tools such as Student Homepages, the Discussion
Board, Quizzes, and multilingual encoding (UTF-8). Multilingual
encoding enabled course content to be displayed in both Japanese
and English. Audio streaming, dynamic Web pages, and Flash programs
were also incorporated into this WebCT course. The impact on
student learning will be discussed based on surveys and interviews.

Development Summary: 2002 - present
- Will develop Japanese civilization using WebCT 6
- Developed
WebCT courses for the first year (JAPN 1A & 1B), the secnd
year (2A & 2B), and the third year Japanese language courses
(116A, 116B, 110, & 150).
- Developed an interactive online resource page called “Usagi-chan’s
Genki Resource Page” (http://www.csus.edu/indiv/s/sheaa/projects/genki/)
collaboratively with Ms. Andrea Shea, Information Technology Consultant
at CSUS, to supplement both the WebCT course and a newly adopted
Japanese language textbook, Genki.
