Participate in an important media research project!
Interested and qualified student volunteers are needed to
help monitor local TV news coverage of the 2008 presidential primary
election. Students would be joining the
CSUS Department of Government, California Common Cause, Sacramento Media Group,
and the Institute for the Study of Politics and Media in investigating the
amount and content of public-interest coverage of the primary election.
Volunteers will be asked to:
·
Attend two 2-hour training sessions scheduled in December and
January.
·
Contribute approximately 20 hours of volunteer time to
carefully watching and coding TV news broadcasts, and entering the data at the
new CSUS media research lab on campus.
These hours would be flexible and take place in January and February.
·
Be conscientious, committed, careful, and non-partisan in
doing the work.
Benefits to student volunteers:
·
A great line on your resume as a member of a research team.
·
A small stipend to cover some of your costs.
·
You will learn a great deal about media coverage of
elections.
·
Volunteers will have first priority as paid hires for future
projects, should those projects get funded.
