Civic Engagement Assignment Volunteer Contacts
Remember that you can volunteer for any group related to politics or government (clear it with me). You need to do at least 8 hours total -- those hours could be split between 2 or more groups, but are usually better spent with a single group. You are responsible for contacting organizations and explaining why you are calling and how much work you are able/ willing to do. This list may grow with time.

Court Advocate
Agency:
Description: "When you give someone your time you give them a piece of your life.” - Anon.
Yolo CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) seeks community volunteers to serve as Advocates for children in court. Are you ready to stand up for a child who needs you? No experience necessary, just the desire to help a child victim of abuse or neglect to be heard in court.
CASA is the only volunteer organization that empowers everyday citizens as officers of the court. In an overburdened social welfare system, abused and neglected children often slip through the cracks among hundreds of current cases. CASA volunteers change that. Appointed by judges, CASA volunteers typically handle just one case at a time—and commit to staying on that case until the child is placed in a safe, permanent home. While others may come and go, CASA volunteers provide that one constant that children need in order to thrive.
The mission of Yolo County Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA) program is to serve abused and neglected children by providing court appointed volunteers, each of whom will advocate for a safe, permanent, nurturing home and healthcare and educational services for a child in foster care, and who will be a consistent and caring adult presence in the life of that child.
