Selected Courses
- Foundational Issues in a Multicultural Society
- Education in a Democratic, Pluralistic Society
- Educational Research
- Constructing the Self: Race, Place, Class, and Gender
I have two goals for my courses. First, students must gain an understanding of how race, place, class, gender, and language have impacted their senses of self and their perspectives on schooling. Second, students gain an understanding of the educational system within its historical, philosophical, sociological, and political settings. Students examine the practices and philosophies currently underlying school practices that create barriers to equal opportunity, and then they engage in reflection and discussion on how to implement practices that will create conditions for equal opportunities in schools and classrooms.
