During August 1978, my son traveled with me to Brazil. While we were attending the 3ª Encontro Internacional Para Estudos de Criança in Santa Maria, Rio Grande do Sul Spencer was awarded a prestigious prize for his academics and his book he is writing. As a part of this award ceremony, he was asked to write something about Brazil, which was read to the conference attendees.

Three simple questions were asked for me to write about in this report. The first was: What do you like to do in Brazil? The second was: Why do you like to come to Brazil with your father? and finally, the third was: What things have you learned about the world by coming to Brazil? I will answer each question one at a time.

1. I like to do many things in Brazil. One of them is read. Another is walking around the city that we happen to be in at the time. One of the great things that I did recently is go on a dune buggy across the sand dunes of Natal. I enjoyed it because it is something that I can't do in the United States. I also went to the warm water beaches , and played many new games that I can't play in the U.S. Another thing I enjoy is the wonderful Brazilian ice cream that I've tasted. I also enjoy the wonderful Kinder Ovos.

2. I like to come to Brazil with my father because he usually goes to good places, like the beach and the ice cream parlor. He also usually knows what would be a good thing top do each day. For instance, he usually walks around the city to see new things, and we always end up having a good time, especially here in Santa Maria.

3. I have learned some very sad and some very good things about the world from being in Brazil. One thing that I learned is how everyone in the world needs to help poor people. I have seen children with only ragged torn clothes shivering on the street corners. Then I learned that it was happening all over the world. Fortunately , bad things are always replaced by good things. The people of Brazil are very kind and generous and everyone tries to help each other.

All in all, Brazil is a wonderful place and I am very lucky to visit here and call you all my friends.
