Empowering mathematics programs are inclusive; they use nonracist and nonsexist language, culturally diverse situations and teaching materials that make mathematics accessible.  However, stereotypes are common in families, schools, and society, some current practices, typically unintended and unconscious, play a role in increasing differences.
