Safety Information (Room 1003 Riverside Hall)

MSDS's (Material Safety Data Sheets)
Located in folder next to the hood.  Contains information on the chemicals that are stored in the lab.

Chemical Shower
Located next to the sink.  If you get chemicals on you in sufficient amounts to require the shower, remove contaminated clothing, start washing, and send someone else for help.

Eye Wash
Located over the sink.  Remove the green caps from the heads before using.  Make sure caps are in place when the eye wash is not in use.  This keeps the dust out of the nozzles.  Make sure to keep the area around the eye wash clear.

If you splash chemicals in your eye, use the eye wash.  Continue flushing your eye and ask someone to check the MSDS folder to see what course of treatment is necessary.  Get additional help as necessary.

Sharps Container
Use for disposing of uncontaminated sharp waste (broken glass, sharp metal, toothpicks, etc.)  This is the empty coffee can by the garbage can.

Fire Extinguisher
The closest fire extinguisher is located in the hallway outside the lab.  Know which type of extinguisher is used for which kind of fire.

Fire Alarm
The fire alarm is located on the right hand side when exiting the lab.  It is mounted just beyond the door frame.

Telephone
Telephones are located by the elevators to the left down the hall.

Evacuation Procedure
If the building becomes unsafe, exit the building through the building exits to the right hand side of the lab.  The meeting area will be across the street in front of Riverside Hall.

Clothing which completely covers the legs must be worn.  Closed toed shoes must be worn in the lab.  No rollerblades shall be worn in the lab.
