EDTE 330A - Assignments -(Peach)


Total Points Available are 625. This is a credit/no credit class. To receive credit for this class students need to complete all assignments and obtain 575/625 points.

This will be a collaborative approach with multiple revisions if necessary.

All assignments may be submitted for review, as a matter of fact you are encouraged to submit the assignments requesting input. We will then engage in an online input/response communication until we both feel that the requirement has been met.

2 9/24 25 Pre-Assessment for Portfolio Development- Using CCTC standards.

Pre-Assessment for Portfolio Development- Using CCTC standards and a word processing program, ask yourself 3 questions for each outcome:

  • What do I already know about this?
  • How did I learn it?
  • What more do I need to learn?

Email as an attachment to instructor. Use the Word template. It is ok to not be familiar with many of the standards, just be honest.

Articles and questions will be posted once every week in the TaskStream discussion board. (5 discussions) You must respond using the discussion board at least one time to each article or question. Hopefully you will be inspired to carry on some educational discussion with your classmates.

Questions or topics will be posted every Sunday night, if not I will contact via email.

4 10/1 25 Searching for Unit Resources

Search for 4 websites that address two of the following:
Required: Multicultural Issues

Choose one of these for the second topic:

  • Computers – Copyright
  • Troubleshooting computers for teachers
  • Working in a one-computer classroom

In MS Word provide the address of the websites (copy/paste the url) that you found and describe them. Each student should find at least four websites (two for each topic chosen.) If you are not familiar with browsing and searching the Internet, complete the Internet tutorial in the TaskStream Cybrary.
In this reflection paper describe the strategies you used when searching the Internet, what words you used and how you narrowed your search. What search strings did you start with and where did it lead? Include reflection on your mistakes!

Using the rubric wizard in TaskStream, design your own rubric for evaluating lesson plans which use technology in a powerful way. 

Pretend that you are a principal observing a teacher...

Do a search for technology based lesson plans. Determine some of the key factors that can make or break a good technology lesson plan. Remember, the lesson does not have to teach technology, but can use technology as a tool for integrating the curriculum.

Act like you are a principal evaluating a teacher. Using the TaskStream rubric wizard, design a rubric for evaluating lesson plans which use technology in a powerful way. You must have at least 4 criteria and 4 grading scales. Two of the criteria must have a technology focus.

Objective: Learn about rubrics, establish some criteria for a good technology based lesson.

Use your rubric to evaluate two lessons that use technology. One good, one poor.

Type up a short reflection which explains how you see technology being used within the lessons.

Having carefully reviewed multiple lessons, choose one lesson that you believe uses technology successfully to enhance curriculum and one lesson that is a poor example of technology enhancement. Use your rubric to evaluate these two lessons. For this assignment make sure to copy the lesson URL into the Word document, the evaluation. Type up a short reflection which explains how you see technology being used within the lessons to enhance instruction and what other suggestions you might have for improving the technology integration.

Adaptive/Assistive Devices Reflection

Search the Internet for some useful information about using technology to meet the needs of the hypothetical class.

Search the Internet for some useful information about using technology to meet the needs of the hypothetical class. You will want to search for adaptive or assistive devices. Locate three devices.

What is an assistive device?


In Word list the websites with a brief description and write a reflection that discusses how the 3 devices that you found could be used to help the students with impairments in your class.
Copy and paste pictures of the devices, turn on text wrap.
Ex: You have a student who has a vision impairment, what devices help in that situation?

Objective: Create a professional looking document with images from the WWW and learn about assistive devices

 

8 11/12 25 Using a spreadsheet, create a sample gradebook.

The grade book application must have 10 different assignments and 10 students. There are grades entered for all 10 students on all 10 assignments. At least two formulas must be entered. Ex: Calculate total score, class average, turn score into percentage. (Look at the TaskStream tutorial)

Create a Brochure or Newsletter. Put yourself in the shoes of the student, this would be what a student would create. The newsletter must have a header, three columns and graphics with text wrapped around them.

This assignment will be the final product that a student would create resulting from one of your lessons.

A TaskStream lesson which infuses the creation of a newsletter or brochure into the curriculum. The lesson/activity should focus on the integration of the curriculum, not necessarily the teaching of a software application. Assumptions can be made as to student ability before doing the lesson/activity.

Objective: Learn how to organize a technology based lesson.

11 12/3 50 PowerPoint Slideshow

Create a slide show which could serve as a sample for a student in a k-12 classroom.

You will use PowerPoint for this. The slide show must have at least 10 slides, graphics, text and animated graphics/text.

Sounds, effectively used can also greatly enhance a slideshow.(Not required, but fun)

This assignment will be the final product that a student would create resulting from one of your lessons.
