Sometimes it is the actual name or title of someone---mother, the girls etc., and sometimes in may be a word that stands for a person---a pronoun---such as his, her, mine.)

(To the teacher: Is a good idea to show one sentence in a number of different ways (with different parts underlined)? Or is it better to use totally different sentences? How do you make a decision like that?)

Phase 2: What are some other examples of possessive? Can you tell me a actual thing that you own? Can you tell me about something that you own, but no one can see it? What are all of the pronouns that can show possession? What are some words that are pronouns but do not show possession?

What do you have to be careful not to mix up with possessive? (plurals and contractions).
