INTRODUCTION TO PROBABILITY THEORY |

Catalog Description: |
Probability axioms, discrete and continuous random variables, functions of random variables, joint densities, expectation, moment generating functions, Chebyshev's inequality, transformations, weak law of large numbers, central limit theorem. |

Prerequisites: |
Math 31; Stat 1 or Stat 50 recommended. |

Introduction to Mathematical Statistics, 6th
edition by Hogg, McKean, and Craig |

Course Outline: |
We will closely follow the text and cover Chapters1-4 (inclusive). There will be THREE midterm tests and a COMPREHENSIVE final exam. |

Homework: |
Problems from the exercises section in the text will be suggested for practice. Assigned homework will be collected periodically. |

You may drop this course without penalty until
Friday, October 9, 2009. For procedural details refer to the DROP POLICY
document of the CSUS Math & Statistics department. On or after
October 12, 2009 you MUST be passing this course (with a grade of C or
better) AND
MUST have a written medical excuse from a licensed M.D. in order to
drop this course without penalty. |
