SPANISH 151 / 250C-----COSTA RICA-GUATEMALA

One unit of this three unit course is fulfilled by participating in the Guatemala academic tour where emphasize will be placed on the Mayan culture as well as Guatemalan history and culture (art, music, folklore, etc). Prior to the tour, students will have access to a list of culture points that will be studied, visited and tasted, during the tour. Lectures will be held en route on these and other points. At the end of the tour students will be tested on these points.

SPAN 151. Civilization and Culture of Hispanic America.

Readings, visuals and discussion of the history, geography, anthropology, sociology, politics, economics, folklore and artistic expression of the Hispanic-American nations of South America, with particular emphasis upon Peru. The pre-Inca and Inca cultures will be related to the course material. All readings and discussion in Spanish. Prerequisite: SPAN 002B or equivalent. 3 units.

SPAN 250C. Civilization and Culture of Hispanic America. A seminar examining aspects of the character and personality of the various nations of Hispanic America as revealed through Hispanic American social and literary studies. Attention will be given to the various ethnic groups found in Hispanic America. Prerequisite: Graduate standing with fluency in understanding, speaking, reading and writing contemporary Spanish. 3 units.

Los estudiantes en la clase SPAN 250C tendrán que escribir un papel de 5 páginas mínimo sobre algún aspecto de la cultura de Hispano América: i.e. incas, personas, eventos, etc. con previa aprobación del profesor Santana
