*For the Fall 2009 semester, faculty
are required to take nine furlough days. The semester ends on
January 4, 2010 (when grades are due), and this will count as my
last furlough day (which means your grades will be turned in on
January 3rd). Please be aware that other professors, depending on
their approved furlough days, may not coincide with mine. In
other words, unlike some other state agencies, furlough days are
approved individually, and are not campus-wide, except for October
16th, which is a campus-wide furlough day for staff, faculty and
administration. During our furlough days, we are not allowed to be
on campus, answer email, offer advising, attend conferences, grade
papers, etc. (I imagine we're supposed to sit at home with the
shades drawn and the lights off wondering how much longer this
insanity will continue.) I have tried to minimize the impact to you
by placing my days around the Thanksgiving holiday (when many
professors often excuse class anyway) and during exam week, when
class would not meet.
