NOTE:
This is a complex
course which stretches most
students' thinking abilities as you must learn new ways of
thinking--that
is, the core goals of the course are about thinking like a critic.
Since
good writing is essential for critics to teach others what they have
learned
via their criticism, it is very important that you have good writing
skills
and habits coming into ComS 100B. If you are learning new
thinking
skills AND writing skills you will be overwhelmed. To assess your
writing propensity, take the Daly-Miller
Test (of Writing Apprehension) and
then
review your scores. If
you discover troubling levels of writing apprehension (either too
high
or too low ), I recommend that you visit the Writing Center in
Calaveras
Hall 128, or call 8-6356 and work with the tutors before attempting
this course.
