CONCEPTUAL OUTLINE OF THE COURSE:
The course is designed around the theme of "Being a
Competent
Communicator in the 21st Century." The approach assumes
that, as
a rational person, you are a kind of scientist—learning through
questioning, creating hypotheses, experimenting and collecting
data.
You will have the opportunity to engage in the direct study of
your own
communication and others, determine what competencies you already
have
and develop new competencies in the areas of symbol use,
interpersonal
communication, group communication and public speaking.
You will also have some control over what you do in the course. In order to pass, you will show you have mastered the basic concepts, and you can choose how far you wish to go beyond that by choosing other assignments.
