Beginning & Intermediate French Online |
Offering French online was a pilot
program at CSUS from 2005-2007, ending in May 2007. Pilot Program: Continued Online program since 2007: This language will be taught for 4 semesters, to encompass Beginning and Intermediate French. The courses will be rigorous, emphasizing reading, writing, speaking and listening skills, in French. These courses require that students have access to high-speed internet, a reliable computer with a microphone, and various free software downloads to use Web technologies in the delivery of the course. Students will be expected to study 8-12 hours, outside of the 4 hours of classtime; all of the course work is done at a computer. Students considering taking these courses should have good computer skills. Completion of courses 1B. 2A and 2B meet graduation requirements at CSUS and other campuses, and entry into the French Minor or Major programs. Check with your advisor from your own campus. The first two semesters (Beginning: French 1A and French 1B) will be taught as 75% Web-enhanced and 25% live or electronically live, for Fall and Spring semesters, respectively, starting in Fall 2007. Distant students will be using Web technology and computers to "attend" class and to meet live with the instructor. One hour a week will be required attendance in person for CSUS students or "live electronic" attendance for distant students. These two courses will both be repeated every Fall and every Spring, respectively, in the online format. Intermediate: French 2A and French 2B: Note that the pilot period for these courses has ended. Distant students at other CSU campuses may inquire about special accomodation for an online format offering. These courses are only offered traditionally at Sac State. Registration is normal for CSUS students. Distant students enroll at their own campus, using a Concurrent Enrollment form available at their own campus Registration Department. This form should be faxed to CSUS three weeks prior (or earlier) to the beginning of the semester in Sacramento. Open university students follow the procedures for enrollment with the College of Continuing Education (Extended Education) at their own campuses. High school students will enroll through the ACE program Off-Campus courses. Qualifications for
