Study of the morphology and physiology of cells in primary normal human tissues and the arrangment and adapatations of tissues in organs and organ systems. The characteristics and properties of abnormalities in human tissues will be covered if time permits. Lecture two hours; laboratory three hours. Prerequisite: BIO 010 and BIO 011, or both BIO 001 and BIO 002. 3 units.

All students enrolled in BIO 130 must get a SacLink account by the end of the first week of classes. Students should be comfortable using a computer and willing to browse the Internet. This class requires online class participation in the Web assignments. In addition, RealOne Player software is required to view video streamed materials and Adobe Acrobat Reader software is required for printing of class handouts. They can be downloaded free from the Internet. Materials will download faster if you use a high-speed (broadband) computer connection to the Internet (campus network or a DSL/cable modem). Students can access the Internet from one of the campus student labs if a personal high-speed connection is not available.

Exams, Class Attendance and Grading Policies
There will be a total of 480 points in the course. There are three written exams, each worth 80 points, and three laboratory midterm exams, each worth 60 points. The Final Exam is a comprehensive laboratory identification exam and is worth 60 points.
The format for examinations will be different depending on the information covered on the exam. Examples of types of questions which may occur on the examinations include multiple-choice, matching, short answer, discussion, and morphology identification.
Attendance is required for all lectures and laboratories. Roll will be taken at all class meetings. Absence from more than 2 lectures or laboratories will result in a Final Grade of "WU" for the course. There are no make-up lecture or laboratory examinations.
Final Grades are determined using the following criteria:
A Outstanding achievement 90% of total possible points B Excellent performance; clearly exceeds course requirements 80-89% C Meets course requirements 70-79% D Passed, but not at average achievement standards 60-69% F Failure to meet class requirements less than 60% Plus and minus grades may be given at the discretion of the Instructors.

Anyone cheating in any capacity will be assigned a final grade of "F" for the course. No exceptions.
Laptop computers are to be used for note-taking only. All cell phones must be turned off or set on vibration mode while in class. No text messaging or e-mailing is permitted.
The add/drop policies for all on-campus and off-campus students in BIO 130 are the same as the Sacramento State add/drop policies. Students should refer to the Sacramento State Academic Calendar on the Web site (http://www.csus.edu/) for the appropriate add/drop dates.
