Tips for Success

  • Use the discussion questions for each assigned reading as a study guide.

  • Practice writing out responses to the questions.

  • Complete  all reading assignments by the scheduled dates.

  • Set aside plenty of time to complete the reading assignments.  Because much of the language and many of the ideas in the readings will seem unfamiliar, it usually takes several readings before you begin to feel that you understand the texts.

  • Keep up with the readings, and use weekends to catch up if necessary.

  • If you do fall behind, do not compound the difficulty by missing class.

  • If you miss a class, it is your responsibility to learn the material covered.

  • Study with classmates.  The texts that we will be reading are difficult, and discussion of the readings with your peers will make your learning process more enjoyable.
