Peer Advsor Ariel

Ariel Zavala, Liberal Studies

Education Abroad Program: CSU IP Learn Spanish in Spain; Jaén, Spain (CSU IP)

Ariel is a senior and wants to become an elementary school teacher to teach either 1st or 3rd grade. She has always enjoyed working with children and wants to make a difference in their lives. Last year, she studied abroad in Spain to learn about the history, culture, and language. She did not know very much Spanish when she arrived and it was very difficult for her to communicate, but after a few months she was able to have conversations with the locals. She learned about other cultures by traveling and making friends from other countries. Study Abroad was a life changing experience that Ariel will never forget.

Ariel is availalbe in the IPGE office Tuesday from 9am to 10am and Thursday from 12:00 to 1pm

Peer Advisor Aracely

Aracely Sanchez, Business Administration

Educationi Abroad Program: Middlesex University; Middlesex, England (Direct Exchange)

Aracely was raised in Rocklin, CA and is familiar with the Sacramento area very well. This upcoming year she will be graduating from Sacramento State with a degree in Business Administration with a double concentration in Accountancy and International Business. Studying abroad has fuelled her desire to learn new cultures and travel to new places. During her study abroad experience, Aracely travelled to 11 European countries and to Morocco, Africa. For the near future, she is looking forward to her next adventure in South America and reunions with her friends abroad. She is fluent in Spanish and interested in learning Portuguese. As a Peer Advisor, Aracely is looking forward in assisting you with any questions pertaining to Education Abroad and sharing her life changing experience as a student abroad.

Aracely is available in the IPGE office Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday from 10:30 to 11:30am

Peer Advisor Carly

Carly Quellman, Communications with an emphasis in Journalism

Education Abroad Program: University of Technology, Sydney; Sydney, Australia (Direct Exchange)

Carly is starting her 4th and final year at Sacramento State. She studies Communications with an emphasis in Journalism, and is a member of the Sac State Dance Team. Carly decided to study abroad because she wanted to live in another culture's community and feel the "new experience" in college again. Her time abroad allowed her to find her best friends, gain world knowledge, and learn what the rest of the world has to offer. In the coming years, she plans to travel the Mediterranean and South America, and possibly pursue her Master’s degree at Boston University. Carly’s motto to live by is, “If you keep moving, you’re going to get somewhere.”

Carly is available it the IPGE office Monday and Wednesday from 3pm to 4:30pm

Peer Advisor Darlene

Darlene Saenz, Family and Consumer Sciences and Spanish

Education Abroad Program: CSU IP Learn Spanish in Spain; Jaén, Spain (CSU IP)

Darlene Saenz is currently a 4th year student at Sacramento state. For the 2015-2016 academic year, Darlene spent her junior year abroad studying Spanish in Jaén, Spain. During her international academic program, Darlene travelled to 13 different countries in Europe. The study abroad experience has improved Darlene's communication and leadership skills. She has also learned how to navigate through Europe and now has a greater interest in news around the world. She wishes to return to her second home (Spain) in the future. As a Global Ambassador, Darlene looks forward to speaking with Sac State students interested in studying abroad.

James Peer Advisor

James Murphy, Philosophy: Ethics, Law, and Politics

Education Abroad Program: Gothenburg University; Gothenburg, Sweden (Direct Exchange)

James grew up in the Sierra Nevada foothills where he became interested in playing music, anything to do with sci-fi and fantasy, and generally nerdy things. During his pursuit of higher education, James has been involved in multiple collegiate clubs and associations, attained two Associate Degrees, and is an avid bass player and snowboarder. Now pursuing his BA in Philosophy, James desires to learn more about the struggles and triumphs within the whistle-blower community so that he may assist them in his future career of Law and Human Rights. Working with Study Abroad and participating as an exchange student to Sweden has brought immeasurable joy to James through the relationships and friends gained in this unforgettable experience.
