 As a condition of your enrollment at California State University, Sacramento you will be automatically enrolled in the CSU-approved Relation health insurance policy.  You will be automatically charged the health insurance premium in two installments during the academic year.  Charges will appear in your MySacState account.

Those students who have coverage provided by a sponsoring organization are eligible to apply for a waiver of the CSU-approved health insurance plan.  Please purchase travel insurance ONLY for the period that you will be in the United States that is not covered by the effective dates of the policy listed above.

Why is Health Insurance Required?

International students are required by federal law to maintain health insurance while studying the in the United States. In order to attend classes at Sac State, all F-1, J-1, and J-2 visa holders are required to hold health insurance through Relation Insurance Services.

What is the plan called?

The plan is called GeoBlue.

What is covered?

Health insurance helps cover the expense of:

  • Visits to the doctor, hospital or urgent care
  • Unexpected illness and/or injuries
  • Medical evaluation
  • Repatriation
  • Medicine

How do I apply to waive the Relation health insurance policy?

Only students funded by a sponsoring organization (e.g. SACM, CBIE) are eligible to apply for a waiver. To apply for a waiver, you must submit a valid financial guarantee to IPGE that covers the complete dates of the semester you are enrolling in.

How do I get my GeoBlue ID Card?

You will receive an email from GeoBlue at the start of each semester/ term notifying you to download your ID card. You may also set up an account at to access your ID card any time. If you need to seek medical treatment before you receive notice that your ID card is active, please contact Relation at (800) 537-1777 to obtain your insurance ID number.

Keep your ID card with you at all times! You will need your card when you visit Student Health & Counseling Services (SHCS) or a doctor’s office, urgent care, or hospital.
