Meet the Staff of International Programs and Global Engagement

Dr. Paul Hofman Dr. Paul Hofmann, Assistant Vice President for International Programs and Global Engagement

As Sacramento State’s Senior International Officer (SIO), Dr. Hofmann has administrative oversight of International Recruitment and Admissions, International Student and Scholar Services, Study Abroad, and the English as a Second Language Tutoring Center (ELSC). A native of Detroit, Michigan, Dr. Hofmann was formerly the Assistant Vice President for International Affairs at Fresno State and the Director of the Center for International Programs at Bowling Green State University. Dr. Hofmann holds a BA in Political Science from Adrian College (Adrian, Michigan), MA in International Relations from the University of Toledo (Toledo, Ohio), MA in Higher Education from San Jose State University (San Jose, CA) and Ph.D. in Higher Education Administration from Bowling Green State University (Bowling Green, Ohio). Dr. Hofmann has more than 20 years of experience in international education and has an extensive background in East Asia.

Janis Silvers, Coordinator, Study Abroad and International Exchange

Janis has been involved in study abroad advising and administration in the International Programs and Global Engagement office for many years. She is one of the Benjamin A. Gilman scholarship advisors for Sac State students. She enjoys working with students and advising them on the benefits of an educational experience abroad; the learning, growth, and fun it entails. She earned her Bachelor’s degree in Social Work at California State University, Long Beach and quickly after grew her love for traveling and learning from other cultures while in her position as an airline flight attendant. She later lived and studied in Spain for a summer. She considers the best part of her job to be the time she spends advising and meeting with students.

Michelle loew

Michelle Loew, International Programs and Study Abroad Advisor

Michelle is a study abroad advisor in IPGE, and the Fulbright Programs Advisor and Scholar Liaison for Sac State. She began traveling internationally when she was 14-years-old and has been to several countries throughout Europe, Asia, South America and North America. Michelle earned her Bachelor of Arts in Communication Studies from CSU, Chico, during which time she studied abroad in Thailand. She started working in the IPGE office as a graduate student assistant while completing her Master of Science in Counseling from Sacramento State. Michelle has extensive experience connecting with diverse populations and enjoys working with students to expand their worldview.  

Megan Hambright

Megan Hambright, Administrative Assistant

Megan began working in IPGE as a Student Assistant after returning home from a semester abroad at Université Laval in Quebec City, Canada. After graduating from Sacramento State with a Bachelor’s of Arts in French, Megan returned to the office as an Administrative Assistant. Her experience abroad has furthered her passion for international education and learning new languages. Megan hopes to earn her Master’s degree at Sacramento State in the future.

Lori Harrison, Admin Assistant

Lori Harrison, Office Manager

Lori grew up in and around Sacramento, she has seen the city and university change & grow over the years. She has been with Sacramento State for over 15 years and has passion for working with students. When she isn't in the IPGE offiice Lori loves paper crafting and spend time as a Girl Scout Leader for her daughter.

Alex Shigenaga

Alex Shigenaga, International Programs and Study Abroad Advisor

Alex began working in international education in 2009. After graduating with a BA in History from University of California, Santa Cruz, Alex went on to become Senior Program Coordinator for the English Language Institute at Sacramento State. As a native of Sacramento, Alex enjoys welcoming new students and showing them everything the city and campus has to offer. He is currently working on earning a Masters of Business Administration.

Caroline Peretti

Caroline Peretti, International Admissions Specialist

Caroline began working in the international field over 20 years ago as an intern in Santiago, Chile. After graduating from the University of California, Davis with a BA in International Relations, she worked for a global company based in San Francisco. In 2008, she began working as an International Student Advisor at the English Language Institute at California State University, Sacramento, and in 2011 she transferred to the International Admissions office. Caroline has traveled and lived abroad from an early age, and she has worked and studied in South America and Europe. She is fluent in Spanish.

Availability: Monday through Wednesday 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday 10 a.m. to noon and 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.
