Hardware Recommendations Overview

In an ongoing effort to provide a reliable and supportable desktop environment for campus users, Information Resources & Technology (IRT) evaluates and recommends desktop hardware for on-campus and home use.  Hardware is evaluated, selected, and priced in advance of each semester.

IRT Recommended Desktop Computers

The IRT recommended desktop computers are the Dell Optiplex 990 Desktop and the Apple iMac 21.5-inch 2.7GHz.  Departments may purchase the computers on behalf of the institution using a campus requisition order.

Purchasing Recommended Hardware

Personal Purchase Instructions

Faculty, staff and students can purchase IRT recommended Dell equipment directly from the Hornet Bookstore for the same low price as the institutional price (plus applicable environmental fees and taxes).  Shipping is usually free.  Although personal purchase users can't order directly from our Dell premier web page, they can use the IRT institutional purchase Dell premier page to review our recommendations and familiarize themselves with configuration choices. The Hornet Bookstore computer department can assist a campus user with the configuration and purchase of the equipment. Item(s) purchased through the bookstore will be shipped directly to the Bookstore. The user will be contacted when the equipment is available for pickup. Current campus ID and pre-payment are required at the time the order is placed. The Hornet Bookstore computer department is located on the first floor of the Bookstore. Institutional Purchase Instructions

Campus departments can purchase IRT recommended Dell equipment online using the Dell IRT Premier Logon Page. You must have a valid SacLink username and password to access the site.  The first time you access the site, you will be asked to create a Dell  personal account and password.  Each time you return to the site, you will need both your SacLink and Dell accounts.

You can add items to your cart from the IRT recommended list and from the Dell full catalog.  If you want to continue shopping, click "Continue Shopping."  When you have finished shopping, adjust the quantity of each item you have ordered, then select "Save as E-Quote."  Complete the E-Quote fields and press "Continue."  An email confirming your E-Quote will be sent to you and our Procurement Office.
