When I select a job the system says I have already applied for that job. What’s going on?

The system will indicate that you have “already applied” for a job if you have previously selected it and clicked the “Apply Now” button. This message will appear even if you did not actually open, complete or submit an application for the job. The message is simply informational and does not prevent you from submitting an application.

Can I make changes to an existing application?

You can make changes to an application as long as it has not been submitted yet and the job is still open for application. Click on the Applications link in the My Career Tools section. Then click the title of the desired job in the Applications section to re-open and edit the application.

If your application has already been submitted, you can submit a corrected application by selecting the job again. All of the basic data from your original application should be copied over when you open a second application so that you do not have to start from scratch. In cases where multiple applications are submitted, Human Resources will refer to the most recently submitted application.

I’m trying to upload a file but the system says it “cannot be parsed at this time”. What should I do?

This error is typically generated from a problem with the file name. If your file’s name is more than 50 characters long, please try shortening the name. Additionally, try replacing any unusual symbols or characters used.

I’ve clicked the “Save & Finish” option but I’m receiving an error saying that my application cannot be submitted at this time. What should I do?

Typically this is a temporary issue that can be resolved by completely exiting the system, logging back in, going to the My Career Tools area to re-open the application and then attempting the submit process again. (Note:  Leaving the system at this point will cause any unsaved application data to be lost. Saving  your application several times throughout the process is recommended in case possible issues arise.)

I’m trying to review the documents I’ve attached to my application but they will not open when I click on them. What should I do?

This is typically due to a pop-up blocker or a particular setting in Internet Explorer. First make sure that your pop-up blocker has been set to allow pop-ups from the application site.

If you are using Internet Explorer, you may still have difficulty with the download window displaying and then disappearing quickly when you try to access your documents. As a temporary solution, you can hold down the Control key while clicking on the file and waiting for the window to display. For a more permanent solution, you will need to access your Tools menu in Internet Explorer, select Internet Options, the Security tab, the Custom Level button and then find the option to enable “Automatic Prompting for File Downloads”.

I’m on a Search Committee but I do not see the position available when I click on the Search Committee link in My Sac State. What should I do?

The positions available to you under the Search Committee Access link are dependent upon HR adding you to the list of Search Committee members for a particular job posting. If you believe that you should be on an active committee, please contact Human Resources to verify your status.

How can I update information on an existing application?

If your current application has not been submitted yet, you can access the Employment Opportunties page, log in and look for the My Career Tools box at the top, right of the page. Click on the "Applications" link under My Career Tools then click on the link for the job in question under the My Applications heading. You will then be able to edit your application. Remember to click Save in order to record your changes and click the "Save and Finish" option when you're ready to submit your application.

If your application has already been submitted, you will not be able to make changes. However, you can select the same position from the Job Listings and create a new application with the updated data. When starting a new application, most of the data entered on your first application should carry over so you will not have to start from scratch. Human Resources' dictates that the most recent application will be the one reviewed so there's no need to worry about the prior application you submitted.
