It is your responsibility to obtain copyright clearance for any applicable video, by contacting the publisher/author of the media before you submit it for captioning CaptionSync service. If you have questions about obtaining copyright release please contact Michaeline Veden, Executive Producer and Assistant Director for Academic Technology and Creative Services. Please refer to the Copyright website for information.

Did you obtain permission from the video/audio content owner/publisher to convert video into another format, to caption video and to post content online?

  • Per California Education Code 67302  if a publisher fails to respond to a request to caption video for a student who is Deaf or Hard-of Hearing within 10 calendar days of receiving the request, the campus shall be deemed to have received a license permitting the campus to create a captioned format.

Library Media Center Video

If you need to caption a video that is owned by the campus  Library Media Center, be sure to contact the LMC (email: lib-lmc@saclink.csus.edu, phone (916) 278-5665) to learn what copyright permissions have been granted for the video, and be prepared to contact the publisher/author of the video to obtain copyright release if needed before you convert it into a digital format or upload it to CaptionSync.
