Adware, Spyware, and Malware are computer programs written with the intent to gather information from internet users. Some of the most prominent negative effects caused by spyware include slow PC performance, annoying pop-up ads, unwanted changes to Internet settings, and unauthorized use of yours' or others' private information.

There is always the potential for increased harm in the form of destroying or divulging sensitive data, wasting network bandwidth and/or storage resources and/or loss of user productivity. UCCS recommends installing and using Windows AntiSpyware (Beta), a new security technology provided by Microsoft to Windows users that helps protect Windows users from spyware and other potentially unwanted software. With MS AntiSpyware installed on your system, known spyware on your PC can be detected and removed. Continuous protection is provided at startup, improving Internet browsing safety by guarding over 50 ways spyware can enter your PC.
