Video Captioning Scenarios
The process to caption video will vary depending on the format your multimedia is in. Please see the instrctions for each video scenario e.g. VHS Tape, DVD, Digital Video etc to get started.
Please Note: If you will be using Camtasia Studio software to combine your Video and Caption file you obtain from CaptionSync, please be sure that your video is in a format Camtasia accepts such as: .wmv, .avi (.rm is not compatible, .mp4 has some issues if not encoded correctly). You can convert video using Real Media Converter or Any Video Converter which are free converters you can download.

Convert videos that are not in digital format or in the correct video format by using resources available at the Faculty Staff Resource Center AIRC 3012.

Organize Your Videos
To quickly access your videos, we recommend that you save them on a secure location that is readily available to you. This can be a folder on your computer, USB drive, other media or on the campus media server. Caption files will need to be saved in the same location as your video files so that you can effectively playback the video with captions.
Upload Videos to a Media Server (Optional)
Video and audio files that are stored on the Media Server are streamed over the web and accessed by users either through a link or are embedded in a Website. If you plan on storing video to and streaming video from the campus Real Media Server you will need to:
- Request a Media Server Account
- Ensure your video/audio files are in the correct formats. The server can stream videos that are in video formats: .rm/.rv/.ra, mov (real media, real video, real audio, quick time video formats).
- Convert videos into the appropriate formats if necessary by use of the Media and Captioning Project Rooms.
- Upload videos to your directory on the media server. See Media Server Upload Instructions for more information.
