Passphrase Change

In an ongoing effort to improve information security, Sacramento State will begin transitioning to the use of passphrases instead of passwords for your SacLink account. Beginning March 20, 2008 the minimum character limit allowed for SacLink passphrases/passwords will be increased to 8 characters. These changes allow you to switch from using passwords to more secure passphrases.

Passphrases provide a good way to compose strong, lengthy passwords that are naturally complex, easier to remember, and provide better security for you and your data. Passphrases work just like passwords; however, they are generally longer and have different rules for determining what makes them valid.

Passphrases can contain 'special characters' such as the shifted-numeric keys ('!', '@', '#', '$', etc.) including spaces.

Please note that the use of characters "<" and " >" is not permitted by the system.

To protect your account, choose a password that you can remember and AVOID writing it down. Do NOT divulge your password to others.

Passphrase requirements:

Password/passphrase must:

• Be at least 8 characters in length.
• Contain at least one letter.
• Contain at least one character that is not a letter.
• Other context sensitive conditions also apply. For instance, your password cannot be the same as your account name.

To change/update your SacLink account password to a passphrase visit the SacLink account maintenance page at:

Once logged in click on the "Change Password" link in your account menu to initiate and complete the passphrase change process.
