Border Firewall Exceptions
Information Resources & Technology has implemented a firewall at the border of the campus network to help protect against attacks originating from the Internet. The firewall, along with the server security guidelines and desktop management tools, helps ensure that campus machines remain reliable and secure in the increasingly hostile environment of the Internet.
A firewall provides network security by preventing unexpected traffic from entering the network (most importantly, attacks from outside). To be successful in this, and not unintentionally break services, the firewall must 'know' about any servers on campus that should be reachable from the Internet -- such as the campus uPortal, Website, and e-mail servers.
In order to allow ‘know’ services to a server you manage on campus complete and submit the request form below. If this is a new server on campus please also complete and submit Server Registration.
