New Hire Orientation
Information Security and You
Hello and congratulations on your new position here at Sacramento State University Sacramento. My name is ISY “IZZY” short for Information Security and You and I am here to guide you through the world of information security. We all have responsibility to protect the information we work on form those people who might wish to use this data for malicious intentions. Security is your business. To help you just remember to ask yourself “what would ISY do?”
Information security is BIG, it consists of many different parts and pieces. Think of it as a 1000 piece puzzle that in the beginning seems like a daunting task but in the end comes together to form a amazing picture. The diagram below shows the completed puzzle in a high level overview.
You are probably asking “where do I fit in this crazy information security puzzle?” Each of us here at Sacramento State University Sacramento falls under the USER category. Some of our positions will dictate higher levels of security and require more pieces of the puzzle. But for all us there are a few best practices you should always follow no matter what your position:
- Password – never share your password with anyone.
- Workstation – Lock your workstation when you leave your desk and never store confidential or financial records locally.
- Documents – Never share confidential documents with people who do not have the associated clearance.
- Data – Always remember to protect all confidential data you are working on by never transmitting them through email or no secure channels.
